Kishani
a rising golf star
Kishani Vethavinayakam is showing absolute talent and at this early
stage she needs a trifle more expert attention. The mould has to
be made and being receptive to correction and guidance she should
make the top grade soon.
Takes
Pendant
The 15-year-old student of Colombo International School
came off in great style to win the much coveted Ladies Golf Union
of St. Andrews Pendant with a nett par round of 71 beating a strong
string of contenders. Pappa 'Vetha' was so delirious he threw a
party of elastic hours for friends and well-wishers. Continuing
with her success she joined Jackie Dias, our star to compete in
the SARC Games in Pakistan and just earlier she moved into Scotland
for the World Junior Title event and was placed 5th. An excellent
first time performance.
Ladies
Section
They have been beaver busy dovetailing several competitions.
Exceptionally competent they came off in flying colours. The special
event for pairs was won by D. de Soysa and G. Amerasinghe beating
Y. Inove and T. Inove. Loudly applauded both pairs received excellent
awards. Sponsored by Vision Works whose Chief Executive lanky golfer
Chaminda Galagedera was present at the award ceremony which was
fun filled and hilarious typical of the ceremonies organized by
the Captain combinations.
There
were some very special awards. 'Duchess' Yvonne Abhayaratne was
robed in the funkiest costume sticking close to her well packed
form. She was rewarded. Anusha de Silva struck the wildest drive
- almost irrecoverable when the ball settled running out of steam.
The S.M. Bang couple extremely popular Koreans had the most number
of one putts, Sunil and Manouri Jayakody had the most number of
successful chips into the Cup and Binupa Wijesinghe settled nearest
to the pin on the 16th green.
A
popular tournament, superbly organized, the end was a great party
with dancing and merriment under the happy influence of the best
French Grapes at their pleasurable 19th hole. |
