The Janashakthi National Sailing Championships are
being held at the Bolgoda Lake this weekend. The final three races
will be worked off today. The first three were finished yesterday.
Competitors from all over the island came together to race against
each other in the four boat classes.
The
'Optimist Class' is competed by children between the ages at 81/2-15.
This class, which is the most widely competed sector, saw 16 entries
at the nationals. The Enterprise Class saw eight entering at the
GP 14 and Lazer Class seeing eight and five entries each. The 'Optimist'
and the 'Lazer' class by a single sailor, with the other two class
boats requiring a team of two.
Competitors
row a total of six races and points are calculated from the best
of five, at the worst being discarded. The sailor with the least
number of points at the end of all six races wins the class title.
