No
liquor sales after 11 p.m.: Excise Chief
Laws prohibiting the sale of liquor after 11 p.m. will be strictly
enforced, the Excise Commissioner said.
The
ban applies to wine stores, hotels and restaurants. According to
the law, wine stores could sell liquor only from 9 am to 9 pm. Hotel
restaurants could sell liquor from 7 am to 11 p.m. while restaurants,
nightclubs, bars and Karaoke clubs can sell liquor from 11 a.m.
to 11 p.m. Excise Commissioner R.B. Bandara said this law in existence
for over 10 years was not properly implemented due to the government
encouraging nightlife in Colombo and other urban areas.
"If
one does not follow the rules their licences would be cancelled,"
he said. "All types of liquor, even those with a small percentage
of alcohol such as beer and wine should not be sold after 11 pm,"
he said. |
