MPs
get more and more
Parliamentarians are in luck's way. They are to receive increased
fuel allowances and concessionary rates to purchase mobile phones.
Luckier
will be the new MPs who will be entitled to import a duty-free vehicle
next year, according to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Milroy Fernando.
He
said the fuel allowance for MPs would also be increased because
of the recent hike in fuel prices. They would also be allowed to
buy a new mobile phone at a concessionary rate.
In
addition, MPs would be given an allowance of Rs. 10,000 each for
their personal staff, according to a decision taken at the party
leaders' meeting. The allowance would replace free railway travel
facilities given to the personal staff.
Meanwhile
a Bill providing for a pension scheme for governors was presented
in Parliament. A governor who has served for at least five years
will be entitled to a monthly pension amounting to one third of
his/her last salary. |
