All roads to ‘The Orchard Bungalow’

‘The Orchard Bungalow’ is the latest addition to Kandy’s small luxury hotel trend. The visitors, both Sri Lankans and foreigners, to this beautiful hill capital set the trend for small luxury living.

Hidden on the hilltops off Ampitiya Road, ‘Orchard Bungalow’ reminds me of colonial style in Nuwara Eliya.‘The Orchard Bungalow” which dates back to the early 1990’s and has kept most of its structure in its original state. This historic structure maintains a past and present atmosphere for its guests.

‘It is a homely bungalow, which provides an ambiance of tranquillity and relaxation.. I don’t like it call a hotel. I think it is a home away from home’ said Lenny Fernando, an ex planter,who is the proprietor of this project.

“The Orchard” has five bedrooms with all modern amenities An attached bathroom with hot and cold water, Satellite TV, telephone, pipe music , a mini fridge, new one touch lighting and reading facilities are some of the features provided into each room.

Eastern and Western cuisine are served at the Bungalow and well trained cook with colonial touch will always there for the guest at the dining room. Dining room can accommodate ten pax comfortably, which is a classic example of British influence.

‘Actually I started this few months ago and is catching up very fast. The guests don’t mind paying few extra money for the personal service they expect.” Mr Fernando said. The breathtaking garden is a must for the enjoyment of breakfast in the early morning sun or dinner under the tropical stars.

“The Orchard” is a stones throw from the Temple of the Tooth and excursions and adventure are their main attraction for the overseas guests.‘I always encourage foreigners to come and enjoy the Orchard hospitality. We can arrange the tours as they like.’ he said.
