Anthrax
scare: Oslo conducts its own probe
Norway is taking the anthrax scare seriously and is carrying out
its own probe with a sample of the suspicious dust being sent to
Oslo for investigations, an embassy official said.
He
said Norway appreciated the action taken by President Chandrika
Kumaratunga to order an immediate probe and full protection for
embassy staff but Oslo also was conducting its own investigations.
The
official said the embassy which was shut down on Thursday after
the suspicious powder was received in a letter might be reopened
by Wednesday.
Meanwhile,
Government Analyst Department officials said the usual practice
was for the sample to be sent to the Medical Research Institute.
The MRI conducted similar tests four months ago when a sample of
some powder detected in a student monk’s passport was sent
to it. |
