UNP national organiser and the country's most famous prisoner S.
B. Dissanayake was taken to Sri Jayawardenepura Hospital yesterday
morning escorted by more than 50 prison guards in a convoy of six
vehicles.
The
Sunday Times learns that Mr. Dissanayake was admitted to the eye
clinic - ward no. 16 - of the Hospital around 8 a.m. and was examined
by Eye Specialist Dr. D.H.H. Wariyapola who diagnosed that he was
suffering from cataract.
He
would need to undergo surgery soon. Mr. Dissanayake was taken from
hospital around 10:30 a.m, and driven back to Welikada jail. A heavy
police guard was also deployed in an around the hospital with the
hospital security stepping up checks on visitors.
This
was the first time Mr. Dissanayake was taken out of prison after
being jailed on November 30 for contempt of court. |
