and Aponsu Cricket Schools gain easy victories

The inaugural under 14 tournament which is being
played for the 'Nelson Mendis Trophy' kicked off last Monday at
the CCC grounds. The matches were played in the true spirit of the
game with several matches being played in gloomy conditions with
the youngsters showing their keenness to complete the matches despite
rain and bad light.
The
awards ceremony of the tournament will take place at the Shalika
Grounds, Narahenpita on Thursday with Roshan Mahanama being the
chief guest. CCC 'B', R.S.A Cricket School, Kurunegala, Asoka de
Silva School of Cricket, Jayalath Aponsu Cricket School, Moratuwa,
Roy Dias School of Cricket and CCC "A" have qualified
for the quarter final stage of the competition.
In
the games played yesterday Emirates Cricket Training and Jayalath
Aponsu School of Cricket recorded victories over R.S.A Cricket School
and CCC"D". In the first game an attractive 35 runs by
Eshan Aponsu helped Emirates Cricket Training Academy to gain a
four wickets win over the RSA Cricket Academy of Kurunegala. Batting
first RSA Cricket Academy were all out for 68 with B.D.Madumal stroking
31 with four boundaries and one six. Extras was the next highest
scorer with 16. Patrick Raja captured three for 20 and W. Ashan
bowled a nagging length to take two wickets for 7 runs whilst Vimukthi
Dissanayake captured two for 8.
Emirates
Cricket Training Academy knocked off the required runs for victory
in 24 overs scoring 69 for the loss of six wickets. Eshan Aponso
led the run hunt with a power-packed 35 which had four boundaries.
Once again extras played a major role by being the second biggest
run getter with 17. C. Dulanga captured two wickets for 2 runs.

Emirates Cricket Training Academy - 69 for 6 in 24 overs (Eshan

'D' beaten
In the second match Jayalath Aponsu School of Cricket beat CCC "D"
by 5 wickets. CCC "D" who are fielding an under 12 team
for this tournament scored 77 runs losing eight wickets in their
innings, with Thusith Silva stroking 21 and Sachith de Silva 18.
Buddika de Silva (2 for 7) and Mahesh Dharmasiri (2 for 9) helped
restrict CCC to this low total.
Jayalath
Aponsu School of Cricket reached their target in the 19th over with
S.Weerasinghe scoring an unbeaten 18 and S. Rajasinghe 15. Chathura
Jayasinghe caused some trouble to the boys from Moratuwa by capturing
2 wickets for 24 runs.
