Burdett
Trophy stays with Royal Colombo
Once again the Royal Colombo beat their friendly rivals the Nuwara
Eliya Golf Club in their annual encounter for the handsome Burdett
Trophy.
Kumar
Boralessa leading a formidable Royal Colombo Golf Club side took
a commanding position through the morning session of four foursome
matches by winning 3 games. In the afternoon there were 8 singles
with Royal Colombo scraping through to win 4½ games to 3½.
The final score was Royal Colombo 7½ wins against N'Eliya
4½ wins. The weather was exceptionally kind through the morning
and afternoon. The 19th hole was kept busy through an elastic afternoon.
Anniversary
Trophy
Instituted this year the 125th Anniversary the encounters
were very closely contested with Royal Colombo very fortunate to
break through and win 6½ matches to 5½.
Puffin
The Colombo Ladies were magnificent in victory. This year
has probably been their best year. Superbly handled administration,
cleverly organized competitions with classy award ceremonies. Much
credit to Anne Captain, Anusha de Silva and Dilinii de Soysa an
excellent trio. The Puffin Trophy was resurrected and as it came
alive the Colombo Ladies led by stunning Anusha pounced on the pretty
trophy with 5½ wins against 2½. They celebrated incessantly
on Munchee Ginger Biscuits and Dilmah high grown.
Soon
after sunset the gluttons for joys and celebrations gathered in
the verandah for lively fellowship until Chula de Silva handling
the microphone superbly invited the participants into the inner
circle to participate in Carols. The kids from the Blue, Black &
Blue College formed the splendid Choir and within a flash with the
1st Carol a gorgeous Christmassy atmosphere came over. The Choir
was absolutely magnificent when ever they were not interrupted by
an uncharitable group of intoxicated participants at the 19th. This
type of feature is becoming regular and I feel strongly that such
misconduct must be stopped.
The
Award ceremony was another success. Boralessa exhibited his usual
eloquence in a brisk speech of thanks all round. Sunil Jayakody's
eloquence in response was classy.
Tita
Nathanielsz President of the Royal Colombo presented the handsome
Burdett Trophy to the Captain of the Royal Colombo team and elegant
Anne Captain presented the Puffin Cup to vivacious Anusha de Silva
amidst applause.
The
interior Christmas decorations looked quite festive. Much credit
to Chula de Silva for his style. Greetings my friends and choicest
blessings to you through the season. |
