Govt.
allows WFP to visit Kilinochchi
The Government has permitted the United Nations World Food Programme
(WFP) Director, James T. Morris to visit the LTTE-controlled areas,
after initially refusing permission to visit the area.
Spokeswoman
for the WFP Selvi Sachithanandam told The Sunday Times last night
that they had discussions with government authorities and permission
had been granted to visit Kilinochchi.
An
Air Force helicopter is to fly the WFP delegation to Kilinochchi
this morning, she said. The WFP director is on a two-day visit to
Sri Lanka and had initially sought permission to visit the Tiger-controlled
areas. Last week the government blocked the visit of UN Secretary
General Kofi Annan to the rebel-controlled areas. |
