Top
resort chain goes ahead with Sri Lankan plans
Amanresorts, the international luxury resort chain, is going ahead
with plans to open properties in Galle and Tangalle providing a
measure of support to Sri Lanka's crisis-hit tourism industry.
Amangalla,
the restored historic New Oriental Hotel in the Galle Fort, soft-opened
on December 15 and was unaffected by the tsunami. The property,
which has 25 rooms and suites and a “garden house” situated
within the hotel grounds, will open officially on February 15, according
to a report on the Sri Lanka Tourism website.
The
30-suite resort property in Tangalle, Amanwella, is now scheduled
to open officially on March 15. Amanresorts Chairman Vashi Mohinani
in a letter to Udaya Nanayakkara, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourist
Board, said: “Mr Adrian Zecha contacted me and wanted me to
re-iterate that Amanresorts will go ahead very strongly with all
their future development and expansion plans in Sri Lanka.”
Some
50 Sri Lankan hotels out of 246 hotels across the island have been
affected by the tidal waves of which 25 are star class properties.
Most of the affected properties are due to be ready for occupation
by end February, according to the Tourist Board. |
