Upul Chandana, the Sri Lankan allrounder, signed for English Cricket county Gloucestershire's as one of their overseas players for the coming season.

The 32,year old Chandana who has taken 138 wickets in 133 one-day internationals, was delighted at the opportunity and expects to make a good contribution.Speaking to the Sunday Times Chandana said,"I was approached directly by the County and had no hesitation after I got the all clear signal from Sri Lanka Cricket.

I intend to make good use of this opportunity and hopefully make a good contribution to Gloucestershire.". Chandana is expected to join Gloucestershire at the beginning of the season in April soon after the island’s re-scheduled tour of New Zealand and is expected to play for about two and a half months before returning to Sri Lanka for National duty.

Mark Alleyne, Gloucestershire's player cum coach, was quoted on cricinfo saying "Upul Chandana represents everything that is good about Sri Lankan cricket.

I have had the pleasure of touring there on four occasions, and there is a passion in their cricket that is synonymous with Gloucestershire's cricket. This opportunity to have him in our side is exciting and, as a truly multi-skilled cricketer, we can expect a huge participation from him on the field."
