Who
is to account?
A workshop on how to improve the performance at the state run national
television station Rupavahini was held at Hotel Dolphin in Waikkala
last week. The top management of the Corporation and a hand-picked
crowd numbering 25 persons attended. They spent lavishly and the
bill totalled Rs. 175, 000 for the day-long workshop. One of the
female attendees had taken an office laptop with her to the workshop
without permission and says she left it in the office when she returned
to the office. She claims that when she arrived in office the next
morning, the laptop had vanished and now an inquiry is underway
as to who stole it. The big question now is who is accountable for
this kind of irresponsible actions?
Smelling
toilets
"Sethsiripaya" is home to several important
ministries such as Housing and Social Services and is visited by
many members of the public. But the appalling conditions of the
toilets there are a real shame. Visitors are forced to cover their
noses when they go past the toilets and for the employees too they
are a major annoyance. Another place in dire need of clean toilets
is the Pensions Department. Here too visitors are greeted to the
foul smell almost as they enter the building. It's about time that
government offices put their toilets in order.
Rein
in VIPs' speed fiends
A high speed crash took place near the Parliament grounds
on Wednesday night with a brand new Prado jeep ending up badly damaged.
Investigations revealed that the vehicle belonged to the Foreign
Employment Bureau Chairman. He was out of the country and the driver
and his friends had taken the vehicle on a joy ride. As to who will
foot the bill for repairs is the big question now. With most big
shots employing speed crazy drivers, it's about time they were given
strict guildelines on how to drive vehicles that are bought duty
free for use of these VIPs and end up smashed with the state having
to incur the cost for repairs. |
