Women's
chamber provides ID card facility to affected women
By N. Dilshath Banu
The Women's Chamber of Industry and Commerce (WCIC)
has initiated a programme to issue ID cards to women affected by
the tsunami in order to get them back to business.
"Immediately
after the tsunami, food and clothing were the priority for WCIC
and we collected funds from our members and dispatched clothing
particularly for women in Hambantota. But now to rebuild the lives
of the people, ID cards are important.
With
ID cards they could start their own business through legal means,"
Indira Kulatilake, Chairperson of the WCIC told reporters last week.
The ID card project is to be implemented first in Dehiwala. When
a new application form is created with a waiver on stamp fees, and
legally accepted, the WCIC would contact the Grama seveka of the
area and he will coordinate with the Department of Registration
to complete the process. The WCIC will expand the ID card project
to all the affected areas including the north and the east through
the chambers that are already established there. |
