UNP
motion to save SB
The UNP which contends its jailed National Organiser S. B. Dissanayake
has not lost his Parliamentary seat wants to move a motion in Parliament
to obtain leave for him.
This
is because his absence from Parliament will reach three months on
February 26 and according to the Constitution more than three months'
absence without leave would mean the loss of the seat.
UNP
Assistant Secretary Tissa Attanayake said the parliamentary group
and the working committee would meet tomorrow to take a decision.
Government sources said the move would be of avail as Mr. Dissanayake
had forfeited his seat after his conviction by the Supreme Court.
Mr.
Dissanayake has also filed a petition in the Court of Appeal in
a bid to save his seat. |
