Big
match tamashas banned
Fanfares and tamashas at cricket big matches this year have been
banned by the Education Ministry. In a circular to schools and education
officials, Ministry Secretary Tara de Mel said such tamashas should
be called off in view of the tsunami catastrophe.
An
official of S. Thomas's College, Mount Lavinia, said they were going
ahead with the Royal-Thomian big match but on a low key. Most other
big matches will also be held but without fanfare. But reports from
the North said school matches there have been cancelled.
According
to the circular, even school sports meets should be held on a low
key without bands and other tamashas. |
