Rugby
charity match in aid of tsunami victims
A Rugby charity match between Ex-national players and Puffins RFC
(Expatriates) will be staged on April 5, at the CR and FC grounds
kicking-off at 4.30 p.m. Dilroy Fernando revealed this to The Sunday
Times. According to Fernando, it's a jointly organized event by
the Referees' society and the Ruhunu RFC.
The
proceeds from this Charity will be channelled through the Ruhunu
RFC to help schools in the province to purchase rugby equipment
and to re-develop the grounds that have suffered from the Tsunami
disaster. Six schoolboy rugby players from Hambantota died, while
60 others have been rendered homeless with their families. Fernando
said they were thankful to the CR and FC hierarchy headed by Ravi
Balasuriya who gave the grounds other facilities free for this humanitarian
act.
The
match will be followed by an International Charity Auction of (memorabilia)
rugby jerseys worn (autographed) by world famous international players.
Over 50 such items will come under the hammer. To fill the coffers,
Puffins have organized a Charity Dinner, at the Golden Ballroom,
Taj Samudra, commencing at 8.00 p.m. on the same day. Past stalwarts
of yesteryear who are desirous of playing in this match should contact
