SLMC
sessions with prestigious guest speakers
The Sri Lanka Medical Council, the oldest medical association in
Australasia, is holding its annual academic sessions from March

this year's sessions is that presidents of the Australian, British
and Indian medical associations would be addressing the sessions.
Pre-congress
workshops on very topical issues would also be conducted in a bid
to train the trainers in association with the Postgraduate Institute
of Medicine and faculty members would include overseas experts.
Among these would be one on 'Tsunamis and Mass Disasters.'
The
SLMA oration, to be delivered by Professor S.N. Wickramasinghe titled
"The use and functions of the bone marrow" would touch
on the latest advances in stem cell research.
This
will be among three orations that are to be delivered on this occasion.
The other two are the S.C. Paul Oration, to be delivered by Professor
Sir Charles George, President, British Medical Association on 'Tackling
Coronary Artery Disease' and the Sri Lanka Association of Nephrology
and Transplantation Oration, titled 'Success in Transplantation,'
to be delivered by Mr. Chris Rudge, a transplant surgeon and the
Director of the National Transplant programme in Britain.

will be 60 foreign and local speakers who would deliver lectures
on various topics such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, genetics
and assisted reproductive technologies, child health, metabolic
and endocrine disorders, epilepsy, respiratory disorders, infection
control, nuclear medicine and critical care.
In
