Common
mechanism essential for relief work : WB
By Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe
World Bank Resident representative in Sri Lanka Peter Harrold on
a visit to Puttalam district on Friday said there has to be a common
mechanism to give effect to rehabilitation work for the tsunami
stricken people of the North and East.
He
said the World Bank has paid special attention to the problems of
the displaced people of the north and would like to see an atmosphere
where people work together putting aside their differences.
He
was attending a function at Al Rahman Muslim school at Weppamaduwa
in the Puttalam district. He said the World Bank's attention has
been drawn to the problems of the displaced children from the north
and east who are in Puttalam now and are attending schools there
on a temporary basis with basic amenities lacking.
Quick
action would be taken to see that the required facilities in this
area are provided by reporting the deficiencies to the World Bank,
he said .
He
also said he is not prepared to answer allegations levelled at him
by the JVPers as he had not come to discuss politics but was there
on an invitation extended to him by Rizard Badurdeen, the Wanni
Rehabilitation and Development Minister and wanted to direct his
attention to the problems of the tsunami victims and the children
in refugee camps. |
