CRC
and Musaeus pocket titles
By Mahangu Weerasinghe
The Colombo Rowing Club and Musaeus College took the Men's and Women's
titles respectively at the Ranfer Sprints Regatta which was worked
off on the Beira Lake yesterday.
The
CRC crew, facing strong opposition from the Sri Lanka Navy, did
well to outdo the forces crew and emerge champions. In the same
manner, Musaeus College piped rivals Ladies College on the post
in the final 'Fours' event to win by an exhilarating half a canvas.
The
Masters' Sprints event was won by the CRC 'White' crew, who beat
counterparts CRW 'Blue' to gain the title.
The
Ranfer Sprints Regatta is unique in the aspect that it gives the
spectator views of both the start and finish of all the boat disciplines.
The races are worked off in the Sculls, Pairs and Fours categories
over a distance of three hundred meters, with each boat discipline
being given an opportunity to start and finish in front of the spectator
tents. |
