Some of Sri Lanka's top cricketers will travel to the Tamil rebel
capital Kilinochchi today to help children affected by the December
tsunami and offer cricket tips to aspiring players.
Batsmen
Mahela Jayawardene and Russell Arnold, wicket keeper Kumar Sangakkara
and fast bowler Ruchira Perera will visit the northern city and
attend a ceremony where 250 children orphaned by the tsunami will
be given bank papers that guarantee each child a monthly payment
of 1,000 rupees for 10 years.
The
cricketers will also attend a coaching camp for players living in
areas under the control of Tamil Tiger rebels in the north. The
programme is being conducted by "Cricket Aid," which was
launched by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). Cricket -Aid has plans to foster
1000 orphaned children under their programme. Cricket Aid also plans
to build four villages comprising 200 homes each in the North, South,
East and West of Sri Lanka. |
