The Under-15 Bangladesh cricketers humbled the Sri Lankan juniors
by 109 runs in the final of the Under-15 Tri Nation cricket tournament
concluded at the R.Premadasa Stadium yesterday. Thus they clinched
the Tunku Jaffer trophy which was on offer.
The
match was curtailed to 46 overs with the Bangladeshis winning the
toss and electing to bat first making a challenging total of 237
in 43.1 overs. The architect of the Bangladeshi innings were the
two superb knocks by Nitin Ali who made 63 in just 56 balls with
two boundaries and three sixes and Amit Majander who cracked an
86 ball 79 which included ten hits to the ropes and two sixes. The
duo also put on a stand of 107 runs for the second wicket.
The
Sri Lankan juniors were no where near as they lost three wickets
in the first 15 overs with the score on 29. From then onwards they
never recovered and were tottering with the Bangladesh skipper and
right arm leggie bogging them down. They slid to 43 for 8 before
a ninth wicket stand of 77 between Rajantha Perera (64 n.o) and
Nadeesha Jayakody (16) saved the Lankans from being disgraced further.
They
were ultimately bowled out for 128 in nearly 43 overs. Bangladesh
skipper Humayon Kabir was adjudged the Man of the Match while another
Bangladeshi Amit Majander winning the Man of the Series award.
