Asith guides Richmond to safety
95th Battle of the ‘Lovers’

A chanceless 91 from Richmond under-17 skipper, Asith Weerasooriya enabled them to take a five run lead over Mahinda in their 95th battle of the “Lovers” which ended in a draw at Matara yesterday.

At one stage Richmond struggled at 55 for 4, but pint sized Weerasooriya held on stubbornly to see them through to 191 in their first innings to Mahinda's total of 186 all out.

For Mahinda skipper Charith Keerthisinghe captured 4 wickets for 39 runs, while C. Wijepura had 3 for 28. Asitha Weerasooriya was adjudged best batsman and best all rounder for Richmond.
