Nomination
date to be announced tomorrow
Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake is expected to announce
tomorrow the date for nominations for the Presidential Elections.
The
Sunday Time learns the nomination date is expected to be in the
second week of September. Thereafter, the elections are expected
any time between November 7 and 14, the most likely day being November
10. However, the official announcement of the polls date is not
expected until the nominations are formally concluded.
“Be
patient, I will make the announcement soon,” Polls Chief Dayananda
Dissanayake told The Sunday Times. His response came when he was
asked when he hoped to make the official announcement. Sources said
that it would be tomorrow.
The
number of voters at the upcoming Presidential Election will be 13.3
million — an increase of 292,326 voters from the 1999 elections.
