It’s all about Centigradz
By N. Dilshath Banu
‘We had a vision to do something which is known but yet unknown. Something which should be familiar to everyone but should be distinctive. Something that should be popular among all but which is not discovered yet. It's like something common, but unique. That's what Centigradz is all about’ said Amila, the chubby rapper in Centigradz.

Yes! The Centigradz had all what they describe to be and they proved what they stand for through their new Album "Urumaya (Heritage)". The album is a collection of twelve most wanted and most listened songs throughout Sri Lanka. It includes, "Dark Angel"(the original and the remix), "Tradition" and "Sulanga Se.." as well as some new songs. Most of songs are just relaxing as sitting on the beach, stretching your legs and watching the sunset with total relaxation (yeah, you can nod your head according to the beat, which could add to your relaxation). Not only that, there are some songs which you might need for parties and you may even hear it to just chill out!

Though Centigradz emerged our on the air recently, its tale started early, during 1998 in their school stage. Amila, Thusith, Udaya and Ishan (the members of the Centigradz) befriended each other in their school, St.John's College, Nugegoda when they were in grade nine. They were in the same class!

When concentrating their values individually, Thusith (M.B Thusith Niroshana) is the man behind the wheels of Centigradz. He's the man who composes all the songs with his magical words. Started composing music when he was only fifteen, he keeps the wheel of Centigradz always unique and creative, just as his life.

Getting into the music scene when he was fourteen, Amila Niroshan Paranamanage (Amila) is responsible for bringing a new dimension to Sri Lankan rap breed. He is the master-mind of the Centigradz, who always manage to come out with better solution during complex times.

One of the best vocalists around, Udaya Sri Wickramasinghe (Udaya) can surely take you out of reality and into his magical world of Centigradz music with his voice and the tone of his guitar. And similar to Udaya, Ishan Lakmal Lanthra (Ishan) speaks volumes of his talent through his voice, guitar and drums. Isuru Dasun Wijesekera and Thilini Pannila are oldest members of Centigradz, who are invisible but still contribute to the growth of the band.

Reflecting the good old life during school days, Amila said, "At school, we were just regular guys, but we all had the same vision that is to create our own music. We used to play songs for many school functions, including all the important days we had at school. When the invitees' saw us performing, they invited us to perform for their College ceremonies’
‘That was our begining’ he added.
