The
rugby trinity unite
This October rugby fans are in for a treat, even if the local rugby
season has wound down. You guessed it folks: I’m talking about
the Sundown Tagdown 2005 Rugby Carnival, organised by the Class
of 94’ of S. Thomas’ College, Mt Lavinia. The event
commemorates fifty years of outstanding rivalry between S. Thomas’
and Royal College and S. Thomas’ and Trinity College; of course,
both anniversaries falling on the same year, is a happy coincidence,
to say the least. In any case, the Rugby Carnival promises to be
an event to remember, providing the perfect opportunity for a lot
of ‘rugby greats’ to get back in the game and to renew
age-old rivalries and ‘friendships.’
The
Sundown Tagdown 2005 Rugby Carnival will be worked off at the CR
& FC grounds on the 22nd of October, 2005. As the title clearly
implies, the event will consist mainly of a touch Rugby tournament,
with the playing format involving multiple age groups in the Under
30, 30- 40 and Over 40 categories.
Apart
from the scintillating rugby, the event also holds the distinct
characteristics of a carnival, intended for the whole family. This
means that you can’t now use the age old excuses that you
were planning to just hang out with the boys, as the Rugby Carnival
has separate segments for your wives and girlfriends, as well as
your kids; with P. G Martin.
As
you may well imagine, the event promises to be a resounding success,
with extensive interest already generated. To avoid disappointment,
register your teams early (look at the press advertisement in this
issue for further details) and keep the 22nd of October absolutely
free.
In
this noble venture to rejuvenate rugby in all three schools, we
have gained the assistance of loyal supporters. The Peoples’
Bank is the main sponsor of the event, with The Sunday Times and
The Daily Mirror being the official Print Media Sponsors. MTV and
YES FM are the official Electronic Media Sponsors, while Booster
is the official energy drink of the event. Keells is the official
food supplier to the event, while Carlsberg takes care of the drinks
department. Also acknowledged is the un-stinted support of our friends
and family spread far and wide.
So,
why not come along to the CR & FC on Saturday, the 22nd of October
and experience rugby as you’ve never seen it before!
