'Nethra'
and 'Ran Ran Ran' on Channel V
Last Tuesday, the 27th of September will be marked in the history
of Sri Lanka's Music industry as a day that took our native voices
across the globe.
It's the day the Universal Music India, one of the largest record
companies in South Asia, launched their much awaited album 'No.1
Hits from the Sub - Continent'.
The
Album attribute to the popular Sri Lankan artistes Bathiya and Santhush
and Iraj featuring 'Nethra' and 'Ran Ran Ran' , among many artistes
from our neighbouring countries India, Pakistan and Nepal. The CD
and the VCD of 'No.1 Hits from the Sub - Continent' was launched
at the Hilton Colombo, amidst a gala celebration. Many artistes
were present to grace the occasion, except Bathiya and Santhush,
as they were on a tour to promote their album, ‘Nethra’.
Speaking
at the launch, Rajat Kakar, the Managing Director of Universal Music
India said that Universal Music products dominate retail music charts
due to the continuous focus on new selections and new artistes.
'We prefer label for artistes Worldwide' he said.
Universal
Music India Pvt Ltd (UMIPL) comprises a rich catalogue of films
Hindi Pop, Ghazals, Bhajans and International pop and rock and have
a rooster of artistes like Asha Bhosle, Pankaj Udhas, Anup Jalota
and Falgini Pathak to name a few and film music spanning from Sholay
to Devdas. Back at home, the M-Entertainments has established as
the 'complete' music company, and ensures that its music is widely
distributed across the country and through the internet. Through
the combination of both M-Entertainment and UNMIPL, the local artistes
will have the chance not only to be entertainers but also entrepreneurs.

In the midst of the speeches on the podium, the audience were able
to view Neethra and Ran Ran Ran. Awards were presented, in collaboration
between UNMIPL and M-Entertainments, to the selected artistes who
did their 'Best' in chosen songs. Iraj Weeraratne won Awards for
the Outstanding Songs for his Album and Wasantha Duggannarala won
an Award for the Best lyric, while Nilan Cooray won the Award for
the video of 'Ran Ran Ran'.
On behalf of Bathiya and Santhush, their family members picked up
their Awards.

Once
the formal occasion was over, the Centigradz took the stage by surprise
and featured couple of songs, followed by Iraj and Illnoise.
While
in podium, Kalasoori Khemadasa said that to conquer the glimpse
of music would take many years of his generation, but our young
talents were creating new vibes in the music industry within a short
period of time.
Yes, the young Sri Lankan musicians have the capabilities to create
avenues that would lead us, Sri Lankans, to the global music arena,
which is now areality.
