‘Naga
Kanya’ : The man-snake fight
'Naga Kanya' the first Sri Lankan film on the clash between a snake
and man will be released soon. Scripted, screenplay written and
directed by A. A. Junaideen, the film stars Sanath Gunatillake,
Dilhani Ashokamala, Arjuna Kamalanath, Sriyantha Mendis, Chandrika
Perera, M. K. Sudakar, Sunil Walpita and Sumith Suranga. Naga Kanya
was produced by P. Aaruran.
The
story revolves around a female serpent which chases after a human
to avenge the killing of a snake. Saman a young boy used to play
at nearby shrub. One day while he was climbing a tree to pluck some
fruit he sees a snake. Frightened by the sight of the snake, Saman
falls from the tree and dies on the spot. The desperate mother rushes
the child to the nearby hermitage where a powerful monk was residing.
The mother begs from the monk to help her get her child back.
And
the monk manages to give life to the child but to do this he kills
a snake. Angered by this the female serpent comes after Saman to
kill him. On the advice of the monk the mother sends the child abroad.
After
twenty years Saman returns to the country with his wife while his
mother was unaware of his son's return. When she comes to know about
his return, she scolds him.
The
female serpent which was searching for Saman kills his mother. Would
Saman be a victim of the snake? Or will he be able to escape?
In
the technical crew Lalith M. Thomas handled the camera, edited by
Kumarasiri de Silva and music directed by Somapala Ratnayake and
Ashoka Peiris. To the lyrics of Chandradasa Fernando, Kalasoori
Latha Walpola performs the playback singing.
