‘Footwork Dancesport Championships’ at Colombo Plaza

The Second Footwork International Dancesport Championship 2005 will come alive at the Colombo Plaza Hotel on October 9 at 6.30pm.

Footwork is an event production company owned by Dharshan Wijesooriya. The company has been producing the 'Footwork Dancesport Championships', for the past 11 years and the first ‘Footwork International Dancesport Championship' was held in 2003.

Ten countries will be competing in this year's championships and they include Singapore, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Macau, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Philippines and of course Sri Lanka. Preliminaries will be held at 2.00pm on the same day.

Speaking to Dharshan, he said that many new participants are taking part and that this will be a "good exposure" for them. A treat in this year's floor show will be the demonstration by a five-dance show by the World Professional Latin American Champions, Bryan Watson and Carmen Vincelj.

The couple is four times undefeated in the British Open Professional Latin Champions and seven times undefeated World Latin Champions. WD&DSC - German Open 2005 (Germany), WD&DSC - World Professional Latin (France), National - Blackpool Professional Latin 2005 (England), WD&DSC - European Professional Latin 2005 (Russia) and German Professional Latin 2005 (Germany), have been their most recent wins in the Professional Latin American category.

The event is sponsored by Aura from Swarnamahal and co-sponsored by Softwave Gallery. The official hotel is Colombo Plaza and the official carrier is SriLankan Airlines.

Tickets are priced from Rs. 2,500/- to Rs. 7,500/- and will be available at Lanka Hands, Colombo- 4 and Swarnamahal Jewellers- Colombo outlets and in Kandy branch.
