Bolton
visit revived
By Ranjit Vethakan
Michael Bolton's date with his Colombo fans will go ahead on November
25, despite the original promoters, Water's Edge, allegedly reneging
on the deal and the concert almost failing to come off.
The
super concert will now be held at Longden Place. Shewantha Rodrigo,
who was to bring Robin Gibb to Colombo in the first week of September,
and was thwarted when former foreign minister, Lakshman Kadirgamar
was assassinated, is the new promoter of Bolton's Colombo date.
Gibb,
in the meantime, has rescheduled his rendezvous with Sri Lanka's
Bee Gees' fans for April next year, also at the same venue. The
switch of venue for Bolton's concert is great news for Colombo concert
goers.
The
US$150,000 price tag would have blown a huge hole in the pockets
of fans, had Water's Edge retained the right to stage the show.
The paltry number of 1300 seats in that miniscule theatre would
have seen tickets priced upwards of Rs. 30,000 - a price branded
way too high even by American standards for a concert of this nature!
