Airport
rape: Court orders parade
Five airport workers who allegedly raped a Kuwait-bound Sri Lankan
woman after drugging her are to be produced for an identification
parade.
Kanuwana
Magistrate A.R. Attygala asked the police to produce all the evidence
before court and produce the suspects – two security guards
and three employees of a private cleaning company – for an
identification parade.
The
23-year-old victim, a mother of a child, was allegedly lured into
a workers’ room on Monday and raped by the five suspects who
posed as immigration officials.
The
woman later left for Kuwait but her employer sent her back as he
felt she was sick. On her arrival in Colombo on Tuesday, the victim
complained to the Foreign Employment Bureau’s airport office
who directed her to the Airport police. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan
Airlines authorities have sacked two security officers who were
allegedly involved in a foreign currency racket.
