Teenagers
Battle Seasoned Campaigners at Ridgeways
Mithun Perera, the very best of golfers at the Royal Colombo is
a strong contender for the Club Title over the weekend and his chances
are pretty bright. His high hurdle is Alain Gyi. The other contender
is Rusi Captain who will have to be at his absolute peak to walk
over the spritely teenager Binupa Wijesinghe. The teenagers meet
the seasoned campaigners head on this Saturday and the odds on favourites
are the teenagers to battle for supremacy on Sunday.
Disgusting
Behaviour
The Competition has been running well except that too many stretched
out walk overs and to add to these unpleasant situations an ugly
mess surfaced when young Zen Dharmaratne had a shock to face when
he found that his entry on the record sheet had been completely
obliterated by an ugly sick individual thus depriving the young
man of competing. He was completely shattered and all he could do
was complain to Dad who was equally grieved. The prevailing indiscipline
in the Club has now spread to envelope this type of disgusting conduct.
Elmo de Silva and Ajantha Mylvaganam please stand up and address
the deterioration in discipline in many areas. It's your duty and
your responsibility.
Messiah
McGregor
Looking an absolute Messiah hefty Neville McGregor arrived at the
Royal Colombo with his delightful wife Jill. Many years ago McGregor
was Chief Executive of John Holland, the producers of concrete railway
sleepers. After a very rewarding stint in Sri Lanka, the McGregors
moved to Perth, Western Australia and after more success there they
are now on greener pastures in Malaysia. The couple are here on
a golfing vacation and they are being happily sheltered by great
friends the Nirmalingams.
It
has been established in the historical records of the Ridgeways
that Neville smashed the longest drives and many have experienced
the hefty man driving the water off the first tee. Many too have
seen the ball dip the pond on the 2nd playing off the tee and there
are others who have seen him hook a ball disappearing act on some
long holes. Neville is great company.
He
smiles most times and hardly needs any provocation to split into
infectious laughter. I have played many Sunday games with him and
I still relish memories of the sessions at the 19th preceeding lunch.
Jill, his wife plays comfortable golf. Neat, tidy and compact she
enjoys every outing and the classy chilled goodness of the best
from Lindemans that follow. Jill's administrative skills were identified
and she was invited to participate in Committee which she happily
accepted and was immensely helpful....
