Mystery
with a difference
It’s dinner theatre with a new
twist, and the mystery is aimed at you. Ishani Ranasinghe takes
a closer look at A Murder Mystery
A
mysterious evening… with fun and crime being a part of the
experience. As the Past Pupils’ Association (PPA) of Bishop’s
College brings to you A Murder Mystery, it will be a very different
experience from what is expected from dinner theatre.
“We
are trying to move away from the traditional get-togethers we have,
and have something that is a lot more fun,” says Nafeesa Amiruddeen,
director of the play. The play includes some interaction with the
audience as well, and a member of the PPA says that they are trying
to incorporate a theatrical event, using people who are going to
be guests at the event.
“We
know it sounds inconceivable, but we are trying to set up a sort
of mystery that needs to be solved by the guests,” says Nafeesa,
adding that this is something that can definitely be looked forward
to.
“One
reason we are having this is to reach out to people, who may not
usually come to our get-togethers, but would like to,” Nafeesa
adds. The evening will begin in the foyer of the Colombo Plaza,
and then later they will move into the Ballroom for the rest of
the evening. Something that’s interesting about the event
is that the characters will mingle with the guests.
They
stress the fact that this has been a coordinated effort by the PPA,
and that they have organised this as a fun event. This unique twist
to a dinner theatre experience was initially presented many years
ago by a group consisting predominantly of ex-Bishopians, at private
club functions. President of the PPA, Mazeena Lukmanjee, has brought
together very talented theatre personalities, and a glittering cast
comprising exclusively past pupils of Bishop’s College and
others connected to the school.
They add that they are very grateful to Ms. Yasmin Cader and the
Colombo Plaza for all their generous and spontaneous support towards
this event.
