Caltex
to take Rugby to higher levels - Daham...
“Caltex Lubricants has been keeping the wheels of Sri Lanka
Rugby in motion for the last seven years with a sponsorship package
to develop the sport. Its wings has spread far and wide” said
Daham Wimalasena the Chief Guest at the Awards ceremony 2005 held
at the Galle Face Hotel on Friday (Oct.28).
Daham
(Board Director Caltex) said, that rugby was the most popular sport
in the country. It had a great following and came into international
reckoning in the past with such great players like late Kavan Rambukwelle,
Ago Paiva, Ashey Cader, Mahes Rodrigo etc. I was no rugby player
or administrator. But was involved in cricket with late Gamini Dissanayake
as his vice-president.
Rugby
has a future to reach international standards - in the Asian region.
Caltex the global lubricant has decided to continue with a future
five-year enhance package for its development said Wimalasena. The
Rugby Union headed by Priyantha Ekanayake has a well structured
plan for the future. Its committee is making a concerted effort
to channel it on proper lines. The game was far more popular in
the past than cricket. Ekanayake has laid a solid foundation for
the future. The players, too will be totally committed and even
make a personal sacrifice. Within the next five years we will take
the game to reach international standards. Caltex will support with
fire and sparks he said.
Priyantha Ekanayake thanked Caltex for its continued support for
rugby.
Without
sponsorship no sport could reach international standards. He thanked
the organisers for this pleasant evening and get-together. Mr. Janadasa
