Wildfire at Gatsby’s
Popular band "Wildfire" will be the main feature at Gatsby's night club of Galadari Hotel for limited engagement.

"Wildfire" will burst into flames from 9.00 pm to 3.00 am every Friday till Mid December. "Wildfire" is a four-member group of experienced musicians who plays music of the 60's up to the present.

Individually most of them have been performing in Europe for almost 18 years in various bands. "Wildfire" was formed in February 2000, as a Retro band playing songs of The Beatles, CCR, The Hollies, Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor to name a few.

"As we got popular among the local music lovers we added variety by covering songs of The Eagles, Doobie Brothers, REM, Nirvana and many more", leader Derek said. Their repertoire comprises more than 500 songs and it incudes of Ballads, Blues, Rhythm and Blues, Country, Pop, Soft Rock, Rock 'n Roll, Funk, Soul, Classic Rock and Alternate Rock and Dance music.

"We do not play Techno, Hip-Hop, House and other types of technically advanced music, as we play our music totally live", he said. All the members of the band sing and play various instruments such as guitar, bass, drums, percussion, harmonica, mandolin, accordion and whatever instrument they get our hands on.

'We do not use synthesizers. As you may have realized we are a guitar-oriented band, which is all, that is required for the type of music we play", he added.

"Wildfire" comprises Derek Wickramanayake, Shati, Chris Dason and Nilantha. The band has got few originals to their credit. Their very first original was called "Rainbow out of sight".

This song was written and composed by Chris Dhason (drummer) for the ICC trophy 2002 as their theme song, and was performed by "Wildfire" at the opening ceremony.

"We are Sri Lankan" was written and composed by Chris Dhason. This song is the current Sri Lankan Air Lines corporate theme song.

"When Angels Call" was written and composed by Derek Wickramanayake.
"One more try" was written and composed by Derek Wickramanayake. This song was the Singer Schoolboy Rugby theme song 2004.

"Hero" was written and composed by Derek Wickramanayake featuring Nadin Samarasekara. This was the theme song for the "Indoor Cricket World Cup 2004" which was held in Sri Lanka.

"Wildfire" also composed and recorded songs for the movie "Mille Soya" which was directed by Boodee Kirthisena.
