ACCA
launches 2nd sustainable reporting awards
ACCA Sri Lanka last week said its second Sustainability Reporting
Awards would be presented in March 2006 with submissions closing
on December 20.
The organisation has invited applications from companies large scale
or SMEs to compete on issues of sustainability that are now a priority
in business values and ethics.
The
2006 awards are open to all types of organisations or industries,
with an option of submitting entries in any format including information
from an organisation’s website, which is an increasing trend
in today’s context. Last year’s winners were Ceylon
Tobacco Company Ltd while Ranweli Holiday Village received a commendation
for integration of business within the immediate environment and
Atiken Spence Hotels Ltd received a commendation for integration
of environment within business operations.
The
ACCA Sustainability Reporting Awards are already functional in Australia,
Canada, Hong Kong, Ireland, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore,
South Africa, Sri Lanka, the UK and the USA with similar awards,
largely based on the ACCA criteria, existing in Belgium, Denmark,
Finland, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal,
Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
Environmental, social and sustainability reporting however is still
in its early stages in Sri Lanka and of a relatively poor standard
except for a handful of multinational companies following their
parent company guidelines in social reporting by producing stand
alone social reports.
ACCA
Manager Sri Lanka Ajitha Perera said the awards will create a greater
depth and breadth of reporting that conforms to international guidelines
and best practice frameworks, which will soon become imperative
in the country’s roadmap for development. Further details
on the awards could be obtained from Ajitha Perera at 2688593 or
