JVP
won’t join President’s team to India
The JVP has turned down an invitation by President Mahinda Rajapakse
to accompany him on his state visit to India later this month.
President
Rajapakse requested the JVP to send its leaders with him when he
visited New Delhi on December 27 on his first visit overseas since
becoming Head of State last month.
The
JVP has told the President that it will allow him to conduct the
country's foreign policy without its interference. Once vehemently
anti-India under its founder Rohana Wijeweera, the JVP is now very
much pro-India under the new leadership of Somawansa Amarasinghe.
The
party has good relations with the Chinese Communist Party as well.
