Door-to-door
foreigners
Generally one expects door-to-door salespersons to come from Sri
Lanka. A resident in Kohuwala, Nugegoda was however pleasantly surprised
last week when a group of salespersons walked into his home promoting
a ‘knowledge’ book for children. A young man explained
in Sinhala the benefits of the book.
A young
woman – in the group – speaking in English with an accent
said it was “a today only” special offer of Rs 1,500
and was persuading the resident to purchase the book. The latter
keen on the book but doubtful about the sales organisation, on checking
credentials of the company was told by the young woman that she
was an Indian. The group declined to give details of the company
and went away.
