experts on tour
Ashley Ratnavibhushana has left the island to participate at the
Festival of Cinemas of Asia Vesoul, France.
Ashley is the President of Asian Film Centre affiliated to Network
for the Promotion of Asian Cinema (NETPAC) and a Board Member and
the Jury Coordinator of the NETPAC. He is also the President of
the Sri Lanka Film Critics' Forum the Sri Lanka Branch of the FIPRESCI
(International Federation of Film Critics) and the Sri Lanka Federation
of Film Societies affiliated to International Federation of Film
Societies (IFFS/FICC).
He
will function as the Chairperson of the NETPAC Jury in Vesoul Film
Festival scheduled to be held in Vesoul, France from 31st January
to 08th February.
Vesoul is a very important festival in Europe for Asian Cinema.
It is a unique occasion that several Asian countries with less recognition
but producing outstanding cinematic creations participate at this
festival. Ashley has participated and served in the juries in several
international film festivals in Asia, Europe and the States.
From
Vesoul Ashley Ratnavibhushana will proceed to Berlin International
Film Festival on a special invitation extended by Goethe Institute
on behalf of the Federal Foreign Office of the Germany.
They
have invited 25 film experts around the world for an information
tour and have selected Ashley Ratnavibhushana as one of them. The
56th Berlin International Film Festival will be held from 09th to
18th February.
Ashley
Ratnavibhushana is the Co-author of Profiling Sri Lankan Cinema
(with Professor Wimal Dissanayake) and Co-editor (with Robert Crusz)
of L. JP Lester James Peries Life and Work written by late Professor
A.J. Gunawardena. He is a film journalist/critic, film society activist
and editor of the Cinesith Film Quarterly. Ashley is the correspondent
for Cinemaya, the official film journal of NETPAC.
Ashley
Ratnavibhushana is an employee of the People's Bank since 1972 and
at present he is the Manager of the Welfare Department.
