Prasanna
returns to theatre
Award winning filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage who started his career
from the stage has come back with his latest theatrical production
"Horu Samaga Heluwen" which is an adaptation of a Dario
Fo play.
The
play will go on the boards at 3.30 pm and 7.00 p.m. at Elphinstone
theatre Maradana on February 16. The play made its debut on February
11 at the same venue and it is slated to embark on an island -wide
tour of Sri Lanka following the Colombo performances.
Prasanna
started his journey in theatre on leaving school. He translated
and directed Bernard Shaw's world famous play 'Arms and the Man'
in 1986. This followed Dario Fo's 'Raspberries and Trumpets' in
1991.
'Horu
Samaga Heluwen' comprising two one-act plays by Italian Nobel laureate
Fo, features an impressive lineup of players from the Sinhala theatre,
including Jayalath Manoratne, Dayadeva Edirisinghe, Saumya Liyanage.
Jayani Senanayaka, Gayani Gisanthika, Gihan Fernando, Prasad Sooriyarachchi,
Wasantha Weerakkody (who also doubles as Costume Designer) and Hashinika
Karaliyadde.
Tharupathi
Munasinghe has done the musical score and the stage manager is Chandana
Nishantha Peiris and he is assisted by Asoka Zoysa.
