‘World Cup’ glory back on Derana
The 1996 Cricket World Cup victory in Lahore Pakistan is undoubtedly the greatest achievement by the Sri Lankans in the field of sports.
Did it ever cross your mind that this year in 2006 on March, we mark the 10th anniversary of this great achievement?

A special television programmes to mark the victory will be on Derana on March 17.
One of the main projects would be displaying the World Cup Trophy for the cricket loving public. This is being ably supported by the ‘Sri Lanka Cricket’. The trophy is to be displayed at the headquarters of ‘Sri Lanka Cricket’ from March 15 to 17.

Thereafter on the March 17, Derana will take the cup from the SLC head quarters and have a public display around the city of Colombo in a truck, giving the public the opportunity to see the Cup for the very first time.
There will also be a special log book in which the public could write something about that famous victory.

Derana also plans to telecast special snippets every day leading up to March 17. Most of the members of the World Cup winning team have already given endorsementsfor this project.

Apart from the team members, views will be expressed by past cricketers, intellectuals, other sports personnel and the cricket loving public.
