Army
Chief ‘stable’, say doctors
Army Commander Sarath Fonseka who was seriously injured in the LTTE
suicide bomb attack at Army Headquarters has still not regained
full consciousness and is still on a ventilator, a surgeon said.
The
surgeon who was involved in the three-hour operation said the situation
at one point was “touch and go” but the Commander pulled
through.
He
said they hoped to remove the ventilator soon and were confident
the commander, with several battle wounds before, would recover.
National Hospital Director Hector Weerasinghe, however, said the
Army Commander’s condition was “stable” though
medical staff at the intensive care unit were constantly monitoring
the situation.
