Atapattu
to see surgeon in Australia
By Marlon Fernandopulle
Sri Lanka Captain Marvan Atapattu will leave for Melbourne, Australia
today to seek the advice of a top surgeon over his recurring back
injury that has kept him out of the game for over a few months.
According
to Atapattu his back pain is still the same and there has not been
much of an improvement despite his rest and rehabilitation over
the past few weeks. It’s still the same and therefore I have
decided to go to Australia to see a surgeon and get his opinion
Atapattu told The Sunday Times. Atapattu is first expected to meet
up with former Sri Lanka Physio Alex Kontouri and later with the
surgeon who according to Marvan will decide whether surgery is required
or not.
Meanwhile
Chairman of Selectors Lalith Kaluperuma confirmed to The Sunday
Times that the squad for the five one dayers against England will
be selected after the second test match which will be played in
late May. In the event Atapattu has to undergo surgery he will definitely
miss the five one dayers and be out of cricket for a few more months
which means Mahela Jayawardene will continue to lead the team.
