take Deans Trophy
The inaugural ‘Battle of the Medicos’ one day cricket
encounter between Colombo and Peradeniya medical faculties ended
in a historical victory for the Colombo Medical Faculty bringing
their opponents to their knees on the 2nd of April at SSC grounds.
Colombo
won toss and elected to bat first. They scored a remarkable 280
runs for 9 wickets at the end of their innings. Gavithra Dayananda
was the highest scorer with 91 runs. Dayananda built an excellent
partnership with Pathum Kerner who scored another valuable 61 runs,
for the second wicket which pushed their team to a wining stance.
The Peradeniya team fought well but could only score 129 runs as
they were all bundled out after 38 overs.
The
awards for the best bowler was won by Anjana Senevirathne of Peradeniya
Medical Faculty who captured 4 wickets in his 10 overs whereas both
awards for the best batsman and man of the match went to Gavithra
Dayananda of the Colombo Medical Faculty.
The
Deans’ Challenge Trophy was presented by Prof. Rohan W Jayasekara,
the President of the Sri Lanka Sports Medicine Associaion to the
captain of the winning team Chathuranga Ranasinghe.
