on day one

Dharmarajah, Royal College, Kingswood, Isipathana, Ananda, St Peter’s,
St Sylvester’s and Trinity advanced to the Cup quarterfinals
in the schools ten-a-side rugby tournament which took off at the
Royal complex and Havelock Park yesterday.

Trinity edged out the Thomians 14-12 and later
went on to register comfortable victories over Royal Panadura 22-0
and St Benedicts 31-0. Isipathana also showed their intention of
bagging their second trophy for the year when they outclassed the
Katugastota Antonians 15-5 and later went on to beat Lumbini 37-0.
Ananda though drew with Vidyartha 12 all went on to beat Science
College 26-0 & Asoka Vidyalaya 21-0.
Zahira, Nalanda, Wesley, St Anthony’s, Vidyartha, Mahanama,
Science and St Thomas booked their place in the Plate segment.
Loopholes in the organizing were witnessed as there was only one
ambulance available for both the venues. One of the Royal Panadura
players who got injured had to suffer a delay of nearly 30 minutes..
Twenty-five schools participated in the tournament which was organized
and conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association
and sponsored by Nestle Lanka.
Today all the matches will be worked off at the Royal Complex starting
at 9.00 a.m.
