Wesley celebrates
50 years of rugby
One of the oldest schools in Sri Lanka Wesley College
which counts a history of 132 years is celebrating their 50 years
of rugby this year. To make the celebrations colourful the rugby
committee has made plans to conduct an under 15 international invitation
ten a side rugby tournament on July 28 and 29 of which the venue
has not been decided yet.
Wesley which began playing rugby in 1956 during the era of P.H.
Nonis as the principal was led by Eddie Buell as the first captain
of the rugby team. At present Wesley has become a dominant force
in the school rugby circuit ending the season within the top four
best teams. The past 50 captains will be honoured at a banquet dinner
after the completion of the invitation tournament.
The organising committee requests all past ruggerites to join hands
in celebrating 50 years of rugby at Wesley. More details could be
