Say no
By Marisa de Silva
The ‘World No Tobacco Day Campaign’
organised by Sewalanka Foundation in collaboration with Concern
World Wide Global and the National Cancer Control Programme is billed
to be quite a “large” affair.
A giant cigarette, measuring
about five meters, with a medical message regarding the adverse
effects of tobacco use written on it, will be driven in an old vehicle
all the way from Hambantota to the Maharagama Cancer Hospital from
May 28 – 31, in commemoration of World No Tobacco Day.
During the journey from Hambantota
to Colombo, there will also be a few awareness raising events organised
in Matara, Galle and Kalutara.
As part of the journey of
the “symbolic cigarette,” a book will be available for
the public to write their comments in, and will also have a poster
campaign, illustrating the negative affects of smoking, and introducing
alternatives. |
