Young Wild Life Photographer 2006
The WNPS-Wild Life Photographer 2006 while being
more about the senior title pays a lot of emphasis on its junior
title, which is called the 'Young Wild Life Photographer 2006.’
Like any pastime which is caught by children best
at an early age, photography is no different and more so when it
comes to the specialty of Wild Life Photography.
Children whose parents have been bitten by the
bug does get this exposure naturally at a very early age and contests
such as these, will give those children too a great opportunity
to showcase their interest and photographic work by competing in
the Junior Category which will bring them prizes and commendations.
With this in mind, the organizers are offering
as much as Rs.25,000 for the junior title and five commendations
which will go up at the Wild Life Photographer competition from
September 22 at the Harold Peiris Gallery.
It is important that our children see the diversity
in wild life photography as this subject is often misunderstood
by more people as capturing more charismatic creatures such as elephants
and leopards. But this involves any segment that amounts to Nature
and this is certainly an element that is found in your back garden.
So kids - take out your cameras, start looking
for those butterflies, sun birds and bees in your garden and a rainy
day will bring out many frogs in your back yards. Keep shooting
and good luck. Entry coupons can be downloaded from the official
website: www.wildlifephotographer.lk
Entry forms can also be collected from the WNPS
office - 86, Rajamalwatte Road, Battaramulla, Exposure Colour Lab,
501, Union Place, Colombo 2, John Keells Head Office, 130, Glennie
Street, Colombo 2 and Nations Trust Bank, Dharmapala Mawatha.
The official closing date for entries is June
30, 2006.
While encouraging both local and overseas contestants
to participate, only images of Sri Lankan wild life and scenic places,
are accepted for the competition, thus promoting the local wilderness
and beauty of our island.
Remember competitions such as these have been won by images of toads
and birds - and you could be the one to walk away with a great prize
this year.
