Trials
for Asian Junior Championship
The Sri Lanka Badminton Association will send a
12 member team for the forthcoming Asian Junior Championships, to
be staged in Malaysia from July 3 to 9.
Talented young prospects drawn from the districts
have been picked for the trials to be held at its headquarters from
June 5 and 6. 24 boys and 19 girls will match their skills to come
into reckoning. The 12 member team will comprise six boys and six
girls. Asia’s best juniors will be vying for honours at this
tournament. The Lankan juniors will get that much needed exposure
and competition at international level.
The SLBA is taking the sport to the rural schools
to harness talent. The Ariyadasa Silva Memorial open championship
for the first time was held in Matara. It proved an instant success,
with mass participation. - BW
