CCC urges restraint
after terrorist massacre
The Chamber of Commerce (CCC) last week while condemning
the terrorist massacre of civilians at Kebbittigollawa urged restraint
on the part of all Sri Lankans and the government.
In a statement it said:
“The latest provocation employed by ruthless
terrorist elements is the attack, through the explosion of a claymore
mine, on a civilian passenger bus, which has resulted in a death
toll, so far, of 58 men, women and, mainly, school children, and
injuries to many others.”
“It is imperative that everyone, who would
be justly appalled by this act, should not to be provoked and, thereby,
satisfy the aspirations of the separatists, whose overwhelming aim
is to demonstrate to the international community that the citizenry
of the south and the government are not able or inclined to protect
the Tamil civilians.
It is, therefore, the duty of every citizen, law
enforcement authority and the government to take all possible steps
to protect the populace of this country, without discrimination,
and strenuously thwart any form of violence against civilians.
